Because of so many holier than thou folks, and all the money hungry "church leaders", and all the chaos and confusion within the churches today, some days I call myself a Christian and most often I don't. I'd rather be referred to as a believer who loves God in Spirit and in Truth! But either way I believe ALL PEOPLE gay or not deserves to have CILVIL HUMAN RIGHTS!!! And it is laughable when I hear these so called Christian's who say they love and worship a loving and forgiving God and at the same time say God is against people of same sex marriages. I am neither for or against same sex marriages, but I do believe ALL PEOPLE deserve to have their CIVIL RIGHTS. Discrimination against a person of color or a person who does not think like the "norm" is not what Jesus would do!!! Many of you holier than thou people are always preaching what happened in the Bible, when absolutely NONE OF US really know what went on during Biblical days and even if we did, how can we compare those days to the year of 2012. I believe if God came by most of the churches today, law abiding, God-fearing gay people would be a minor issue among ALL the many other negative issues that plague the churches today, including all these money hungry preachers manipulating money from the poor in the name of Jesus!!! All African Americans, Black Folks, etc, etc, know firsthand all about being denied their civil rights, so where do you get off claiming that President O'bama is wrong for wanting other human beings to have CIVIL RIGHTS!!! Please get off your small thinking, holier than thou minds and vote for equality, and more progress for ALL people in the future. If you think gay marriages are wrong, then let those people answer and be judged by God--not YOU!!! I was raised in the 1950s where few Blacks were in government, in office jobs, few were police officers, few Black faces on TV, and a decent education had to be forcibly enforced in many states by State Troopers and Army personnel. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW your small minded thinking to take us back to those days by not voting and or voting people in office who want to cut budgets for food stamps, cut budgets on Medicare, cut budgets on education and stop ALL programs that would help low income families and the majority of us by wasting your vote, you continue to live in a SLAVE MENTATLITY MODE OF THINKING, and that is exactly where the Tea Party and today's Republican party want to keep you!!! President O'bama may not have given, nor agreed with all that we want, but I cannot think of ANY past president who did. Be careful not to turn the hands of time back in the name of religion that many of us claim, but few of us really practice or live by…BE BLESSED!!! Also Rhoda, interesting how you speak of what is/was "created by God"--were you there? The church should never be made to perform "civil unions",and regardless of what institution has prayer or does not have prayer, prayer should start early upon raising every moning within the family structure before leaving home. As far as definitions, do you realize that the definition of a Black Person was once considered to be "3/5 Human". There are just too many churches to positively harness the resources of the Black Community and use them for the uplifting of that community. The message of the Black Church is about dying and the rewards to be gained after death while the church leaders gain a better life and more materials for themselves. The concept of Love thy Neighbor as thyself is dead, killed by the notion of individual soul salvation. The community is fragmented by the church and it is an instrument in keeping the community divided.

I am apart of the black Christian community and I am not a supporter of Barak Obama at all. I find it interesting that obama's political stance on same sex marriage came as a shock to everyone. This is an easy one...it should not be ILLEGAL for gays to marry. But at the same time it should not be MANDATORY that a church be FORCED to marry them. It's about free will. As a christian I don't support Gay marriage. But as a libertarian I believe they should be free to make that decision and no government laws should be made to assist them. If they can find a pastor that's willing to marry them then fine. But the government shouldn't throw a pastor in jail because he won't marry a gay couple or speaks negatively about being gay. So yes, Gays should be aloud to marry. But no, government should not offer any assistance or force churches to be involved in the process or be punished as a result. The Lord is not about forcing anyone to do anything. He gave us a set of moral standards and it's up to us as free will human beings to make that decision. Once you start banning certain things and you take away the free will element then you start encroaching on un-biblical territory. Let em get married, but don't force churches to support it or help them in the process...simple as that :)

If the church was a positive force in our community, we would not see so many Black men hanging out on the street corners, lost spiritually. We would see improvement in our school. Why are so many people avoiding church?

It almost seems that the Black church has been broken from inside. Preacher always didn't go to "preacher school". They were from among the people. I think that a person working a job....or jobless has a message for all of us to hear. How a pastor can drive great cars, while those in the pews go hungry, while asking for more money for the Buliding fund, or ask for Love offerings is beyond me. And then they tell you to go to talk to "Jesus". It is fifthy. I don't think Jesus would approve of churches today.

But seeing how many pastors belong to frats that put the group ahead of God and anything or anyone else, it's not suprising of the spiritual death of our church. The truth is that many pastors don't believe what they preach to the people on Sunday anyways. And if many people knew what many did believe, they would not believe it, even if it came out of the preacher's own mouth.

The Black Church today may be a voice in the community, however, IT IS CERTAINLY NOT A POSITIVE VOICE!!! It seems to be doing nothing other than collecting congregants' money and so called donations to make the pastor and a few other church officials rich off of the backs of the people. You see two and three churches on every street corner, yet we are still committing record number of crimes amongst each other and our communitity is so under developed economically that it is absolutely ashame. At the same time koreans and hispanics are taking over all the mom and pop businesses in our community! These churches have ample spaces in each of their facilities, as well as some have bookstores, how come these ministers will not allow African Americans to display and or use some space to offer for vendors on a weekly, monthly basis, that will help keep some of our dollars in our own community with people who look like us and have the same experiences--has anyone realized that on Sunday most churches are filled to the capacity, do you realize just how many customers these people would make, that amount of people could purchase and conduct business with African American Vendors before they spend thier money elsewhere. Churches should be able to work some arrangments of after services to have African American Vendors and or encourage congregant's only to purchase from the own. With all these churches in our community, today it seems every other community is DOING MUCH BETTER THAN OUR COMMUNITY...Be Blessed
